It was back in April 2020 that Samsung confirmed it would support certain flagship and mid-range devices for three major OS upgrades. This meant that these devices would receive three Android upgrades after launch, complete with all the features and bells and whistles that accompany a new Android release.

This was a significant decision on Samsung's part. Very few Android OEMs provide three years of OS upgrades. Like most of them, Samsung previously offered only two major Android upgrades for all devices. So when it made this firm commitment in 2020, it meant that supported devices would get to experience new features and capabilities in the third year after launch as well.

Samsung is now committing to provide four Android OS upgrades to select devices. This puts the company in a league of its own when it comes to software support. Customers who purchase these supported devices can now hold on to their phones for four years without worrying about missing out on new features.
