Samsung just revealed all the ways its new Galaxy Watch is awesome

We're just a couple of days away from the Unpacked event in Paris on July 10. It's an open secret what the company will be unveiling there, that includes a new smartwatch, as plenty of leaks and rumors have suggested as such.

Samsung also tacitly confirmed the upcoming Galaxy Watch today with an announcement highlighting its new BioActive Sensor. It's the main chip that powers all of the health and fitness tracking features of the smartwatch, and precisely what will make the new Galaxy Watch awesome at what it does.

New Galaxy Watch is better at health and fitness tracking

Samsung is introducing a new BioActive Sensor powers advanced predictive and preventative wellness features, “features never before seen on a wearable device,” claims Samsung, adding that it also allows for more accurate measurements.

Design improvements have been made to the new sensor so that health insights can be more precise. Engineers focused on upgrading the sensor by enhancing the performance of light-receiving photodiodes, expanding the LED array with additional colors, and figuring out a more optimal arrangement across the sensor.

The company also claims that the performance of each photodiode has more than doubled, thereby decreasing the number of photodiodes needed to maintain capacity to four instead of eight. This redesigned freed up space that was used for additional and larger LEDs.

These improvements will result in enhanced measurement of crucial health metrics such as blood pressure, heart rate, sleep quality, blood oxygen levels, and stress levels. The company points out that the heart rate measurement during intensive workouts is now 30% more accurate compared to the last iteration of this sensor.

Predictive health features are improved with the addition of an advanced glycation end products (AGEs) index4. This biomarker is tracked to measure metabolic health and biological aging that's influenced by the user's lifestyle and diet. This index will provide users a snapshot of their biological age, enabling them to make more informed decisions to improve their health and wellness.

All this, and more, will be what makes the new Galaxy Watch awesome compared to the rest. We can't wait to see it in person at Unpacked later this week.
