One of the things that people complain about Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 6 is its battery capacity. Rated at 4,400mAh, it is the smallest among the ones offered by the recently launched book-style foldable smartphones.
Despite that, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 has come out with flying colors in a battery life test, beating half of its rivals, including the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold, OnePlus Open, and the Honor Magic V3, which have a larger battery pack.
On YouTube, The Tech Chap has posted a video pitting six book-style foldable phones — Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Honor Magic V3, OnePlus Open, Oppo Find N5, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6, and the Vivo X Fold 3 Pro — against each other in a battery drain test.
The reviewer set the inner and outer displays to 150 nits brightness and used these devices on Wi-Fi to run benchmarks, watch videos on YouTube, record 4K videos, and use social media applications to see how long each phone lasts on a single charge.
As you can see in the video above, the first one to die was the OnePlus Open. It lasted 7 hours and 9 minutes with its 4,805mAh battery. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold, which has a 4,650mAh battery, died next, after lasting 7 hours and 33 minutes. The next phone to come to a stop was the Honor Magic V3. It lasted 7 hours and 43 minutes with its 5,150mAh battery.
The Galaxy Z Fold 6, despite having a much smaller battery than the three phones mentioned above, lasted longer, 8 hours and 46 minutes. However, it wasn’t the best of the lot. The Vivo X Fold 3 Pro lasted 9 hours with its 5,700mAh battery, which is the largest among all. The winner was Oppo Find N5. With a 5,600mAh battery, it ran for 10 hours and 2 minutes.
The Galaxy Z Fold 6, despite having the smallest battery among the lot, performed better than most of its rivals. It shows that Samsung has optimized the phone very well and it consumes very less amount of power. We wonder what Galaxy Z Fold 7 could do with a larger battery pack. This test also shows that bigger numbers don't always translate to better results.
That being said, phones with larger batteries may perform better than the Galaxy Z Fold 6 in the long run. That's because when their batteries degrade, they will have a higher usable battery capacity than the Fold 6. As much as we love to see a larger battery pack in the Galaxy Z Fold 7, we think the current model doesn't deserve as much hate as it gets in the battery department.
